Deadline for brought back service counting towards any

compensation and incentive scheme for HMOCS officers

4.

HKG permits overseas officers appointed on agreement terms whose applications to transfer to pensionable terms were approved after 26 July 1991, to have 12 months after the date they became pensionable in which to buy back pensionable service. Overseas officers appointed on agreement terms who

transferred to pensionable terms before 26 July 1991 may buy back pensionable service at any time up to retirement.

5. HMG has decided that:

(i) officers whose applications for transfer to pensionable terms were approved after 26 July 1991 must buy back service within 6 months of the date their applications are approved if

they wish their bought back service to count towards payments under any compensation and incentive scheme for HMOCS

officers.

(ii) officers whose applications to transfer to pensionable terms were approved before 26 July 1991 must buy back service before 31 July 1993 if they wish to have their bought back service count towards payments under any compensation and

incentive scheme for HMOCS officers.

6.

It is emphasised that these arrangements are relevant only to any compensation and incentive scheme which HMG may promulgate for members of HMOCS. The arrangements have no bearing on HKG's current policy on buying back of service for the purpose of enhancing pension entitlements.
