HONG KONG HMOCS: OPTIONS PAPER

1.

I enclose a revised draft of the options paper on sterling safeguards and compensation. This takes account of the points made at the meeting last Friday. Also enclosed is the

information provided by GAD on the tables and graphs that they are able to produce.

2. David Hughes is now working on the tables and graphs with a view to having them ready by Thursday. He will not produce the graphs in square brackets unless you consider that they are necessary. I hope it will be possible to include the minimum number of graphs given the shortage of time and the need to keep the paper to a reasonable length.

You mentioned that the Bank of England will be making some comments in writing on a possible private sector scheme. I also hope to have further comments from Hong Kong Bank. there is time we can feed these into the paper.

4. I would be grateful for any further comments on the options paper and your view on the graphs GAD should produce. Given the tight deadline we are working to, it would be very helpful if you could telephone me at some point tomorrow to let me know how things are progressing at your end.
