Dear
Sandton,
HONG KONG: HMOCS PENSIONS
1. I am writing to follow up the letter of 3 July from the Private Secretary to the Chief Secretary to our
Private Secretary about HMOCS pensions issues.
2.
I think it would be sensible to aim for an early meeting between yourselves and us and the ODA to discuss what sort of package of options we should present to Ministers and how to go about it.
3.
In preparation for this, it would be very helpful if we could see a copy of the advice you have received from Barings: I see that the Chief Secretary said that Barings "had advised that there was a market" for a private sector solution to the problem of a sterling guarantee. The terms of that advice will obviously be important in taking forward work on private sector options.
