Special arrangements apply to Civil Servants with less than two years qualifying service.

16. CATEGORY E enables a Civil Servant to retire early and draw an immmediate benefits at any age providing the OHS is satisfied that that a breakdown in his health has occurred which is likely to prevent him from carrying out his duties. The benefits are calculated in such a way so as to provide a Civil Servant with some measure of compensation for early retirement.

17. For Civil Servants with less than 10 years reckonable service, the reckonable service is doubled. For those with more than 10 years reckonable service it is increased to usually 20 years or if it gives a better result by 6 and 2/3 years.

18. CATEGORY F covers cases where either: a department with surplus staff seeks volounteers for early retirement from individuals over 50, who have at least 5 years qualifying service, or an individual over 55, who has at least 25 years reckonable service, seeks to retire early and management agrees that this would contribute to the efficency of the department. A Civil Servant who satisfies the conditions for Approved Early Retirement would receive an immediate payment of pension and lump sum. The pension would be based on:

1/80th of pensionable pay x years of reckonable service; and

a lump sum equal to 3 times the pension.

19. CATEGORY G enables staff (subject to certain conditions) who are aged 50 or over, to retire early with immediate benefits, reduced to allow for the longer these are likely to be paid.

20.

I should be able to let you have a table showing a comparison of benefits payable under some of the more relevant categories (using the G3, G5, G6 and G7 Grades and the retirement ages of 40, 45 50 and 55) within the next two or three days. In the meatime I attach for your information a table showing the maximum salaries payable for UK Grades G1 and G3 to EO.
