paragraphs (b) and (c) below will be made using;
the tables set out in the HKG Limited compensation
scheme for officers superceded for promotion in order
to determine the relevant factor to be applied in
relation to the officer concerned; and
the ''notional sterling equivalent'' for the salary of
the grade in which the officer is serving on the
relevant payment date (see paragraph 6 below).

(b) A first payment of a proportion of the sum initially
calculated would be made on 30 June 1997, the last day on
which the Secretary of State has responsibilities in
IN HONG KONG, respect of serving officers of HMOCS to all HMOCS
officers who are in the service of the HKG in Hong Kong on
that date;
(c) Subsequent payments will be made at intervals to officers,
who were members of HMOCS on 30 June 1997 and who are in
the service of the Hong Kong SARG on the date of the
subsequent payment.
Amongst the matters of detail which we wish to discuss with
HMOCS officers' representatives are -
(a) Whether the period over which the phasing of payments
after the initial one will take place should span the
whole of the officers' remaining career in service of the
