After the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. public servants previousiv serving in ilong Kong in all government depart- ments, including the police department, and members of the judiciary may ail remain in employment and continue their service with pay, allowances, beneûts and conditions of service na jess favourable, than before. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government-shall pay to such persons who....... retre or complete their contracts; as well as to those who have retired befork 1 July 1997, or to their dependant, ail pensions, gratuities, allowances-and benents due to them on terms no less favourable than before, and irrespective of their nationally or place of residence.
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government may employ British and other foreign natonais previously serving in the public service in Hong Kong, and may recrum British and other foreign nationais boiding permanent identity cards of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to
as public servants at all leveis, except as heads of major governme departments (corresponding to branches or departments at Secretary level) including the police department, and as deputy heads of some of those departments. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government may ales employ British and other foreign nationais as advisers to government departments and, when there is a need, may recruit qualified candidates from outside the Hong Kong Speciał Administrative Region to professional, and lectunicat, posts in governi partments-The above shall be employed azly in their individusi capacities and, like other public servants, shall be responsible --- ta. the Hong Kong Specizi Administrative Region Government.
