Dear Mr Needham
We met at the last APAG Chairman's meeting where I re- presented the ASEAN countries, additionally of course I am the AMEC Director for Corporate Development.
At that meeting we discussed the UK industries and in particular AMEC's interest in the new Hong Kong airport, I made the observation that time could be saved and labour peaks avoided if the modularisation concepts used in North Sea Oil productions platforms were to be adopted. I have attached a brief paper on this subject for your information.
We also discussed the UK and AMEC's participation in the Indonesian Natuna Oil Field and the importance of Dr. Habibie. I have also attached a paper on the importance of the Natuna Field and the relevance of the North Sea experience.
To be absolutely straight forward, I would like, on the back of your visit to Hong Kong, to make Chris Patten and maybe some of his officials, aware of the AMEC approach to the new airport with the benefits this would bring. If it is possible, I would also like to accompany you while you are in Jakarta in order that I may pursue further the UK oil industry case in Natuna.
Obviously all of this is subject to your agreement and approval and I will accept any decision you make but I will be in Hong Kong from 28 December to 3 January and would be available to go Jakarta anytime thereafter to suit arrangements.
