The Tsing Ma Bridge will carry both road and rail
and will be one of the world's longest suspension
bridges, with a central span of 1,377m. It is the first and
biggest of five major contracts to be let for the Lantau
Fixed Crossing, which is a crucial section of the road and
rail links to the new airport at Chek Lap Kok. Work is
expected to start by the end of this month and is scheduled
for completion and commissioning within five years.
"The Anglo-Japanese consortium has emerged from the
Government's rigorous tender assessment procedures as the clear winner," said Mr Yeung.
