AWARD OF TSING MA BRIDGE CONTRACT
FOR THE LANTAU FIXED CROSSING
THE PROBLEM

The Secretary for the Treasury, on the advice of the Central Tender Board (CTB), has decided to award the contract for the Tsing Ma Bridge (linking Tsing Yi and Ma Wan) to the Anglo-Japanese Construction Joint Venture. The strategy for release of this news to the public now needs to be considered.

It is recommended that -
the Chinese Side of the Airport Committee be briefed, on a confidential basis, on the Hong Kong Government's decision to award the Tsing Ma Bridge Contract to Anglo-Japanese Construction Joint Venture late on 5 May 1992;
the tenderers be advised of the Government's decision by close of play on 6 May 1992; and
the LegCo Ad Hoc Group on the financing of the Airport Core Programme (supplemented by other members of the Finance Committee who wish to attend), the Airport Consultative Committee (ACC), and the Press, be briefed on 7 May 1992.
Members will be asked to advise whether this recommendation should be approved.
