You will remember that, when Lord Caithness was here, he said he hoped British firms would get a bigger share of the various airport contracts. In that conversation we touched on the number of consultancies which had been won by British firms or their Hong Kong off-shoots as well as unfounded local suspicions that the system is actually biased in favour of British firms..
Since these things often look so different to those who lobby you in London and to the general public in Hong Kong, I think you should see an example of how these matcers are reported in the Hong Kong press. Attached is a translation of an article in yesterday's Ming Pao based on a question asked in LegCo this week. You might also find it useful to have the text of the written answer actually given to LegCo.
Hong Kong Government policy remains as it always has been: a level playing field with contracts going to those who put forward the best bid regardless of nationality.
