Police
It is proposed that the new airport will be- come a separate police district with its own police station. Walking and motorized police patrols we be maintained to provide a strong detergent presence throughout the airport.
Airport Development Phasing
Development plans have been scheduled to a timeframe according to the current demand forecasts. However, actual demand increases or decreases may either accelerate or slov down implementation of each phase or sub-phase.
A phased implementation programme has
been developed in incremental construc- tion stages to ensure the timely availability
of additional capacity required to meet future growth-driven needs.
Airport Opening, 1997
Construction of the opening phase development of the new airport will be sub- stantially completed by the end of 1996. with airport opening scheduled for mid 1997.
The opening phase includes the entire air- por reclamation. infrastructure for all fu- ture phases, and facilities to meet the projected 2002 demand of 35 million an- nual passengers using 60 aircraft gates. These facilities include the southem run-
way and related taxiway system: the ter minal complex comprising Terminals 1 and 2, including an attached concourse with 42 frontal and 18 remote gates; an under-
ground automated people mover system; rail/road/ferry surface access systems; a complete air traffic control system, and sup- port and ancillary facilities.
The current programme indicates that the northern runway will be provided approxi- mately two years after airport opening.
Phase I, To Year 2010
By the end of Phase I in the year 2010. it is expected that additional facilities will have been provided by adding the second runway and associated taxiway system, a second crossfield taxiway, isolation pad, and addi- tional rapid runway exit taxiways for the first
runway.
