consideration is being given to the possibility of providing in town check-in facilities at Air- port Express rail stations. Rail passengers will have the ability to check-in at facilities provided on the rail platform mezzanine level in the passenger terminal after which they will move down to the main Departures level. Upon arrival at the terminal building, all pas- sengers will follow a simple uni-directional flow through check-in, passport control and security screening, and on to their appropriate boarding lounge and aircraft gate. Depend- ing on the location of their aircraft gate, pas- sengers will either walk, use moving walkways or board the people mover. Those passengers departing via remote gates will be conveyed to their aircraft from the passenger terminal by a comfortable and convenient bussing
operation.
Arrivals
As with departing passengers, arriving pas- sengers will follow a simple uni-directional flow. Upon arrival, passengers will progress from the aircraft through the concourses to
the processing terminal. Depending on their gate location, they will either walk, use moving walkways or board the people mover. Passengers arriving at remote gates will be conveyed to the passenger terminal by bus. At the processing terminal they will proceed through immigration inspection. baggage reclaim, customs. the buffer hall and the greeting hall. Passengers will then depart the terminal complex via either rail. road or ferry.
Passengers transferring from an arriving flight to a departing flight will be processed. without leaving the concourses or having to pass through baggage reclaim or check-in. Transfer lounges with airline counters and security screening positions will be located near each concourse people mover station.
Passengers who arrive and depart on the same flight will transit by undergoing security screening at one of several screening stations in the concourse before proceeding up to the Departures level and on to the appropriate gate to continue their trip.
People Mover/Baggage System Level
The people mover system will transport passengers between the processing ter- minals and the aircraft gate areas, where walking distances are considered too great. Two stations will be required to serve processing Terminals 1 and 2 and the at- tached concourse; two additional stations
will be needed to serve the satellite con- course and processing Terminals 3 and 4. The initial people mover system will be ap proximately 700m long; the ultimate system will be approximately 2 km long. A one- way trip along the full length of the people mover system will take approximately onc minute for the initial development, and ap- proximately four minutes for the ultimate development.
Initially, the baggage system at the new air- port will be centralized and semi- automated. The main processing facilities will be located in the basement of the ter- minal building and will be capable of ac- cepting transfer baggage and baggage from
