APPOINTMENT OF TERMINAL DESIGN CONSULTANTS
.
--
(HONG KONG, 2 March 1992) The Provisional Airport Authority today awarded the contract for the detailed design of the passenger terminal and concourse complex and systems at Hong Kong's new airport to the Mott consortium.
The principal members of the consortium are Mott Connell Ltd, Foster Hong Kong Ltd and BAA plc.
The contract, valued at HK$536 million, is on a fixed price, lump sum basis and is to be completed over the next two years. During the subsequent construction phase, which will be directly supervised by the Authority, the consortium will provide staff and expertise to ensure integrity of design. The cost of this is included in the contract.
During the design phase, the future construction cost will be kept under continuous review and should there be any indications that the cost might exceed the Authority's target budget, the consortium Is contractually required to redesign at its own expense to bring the anticipated construction cost back to budget.
Mott Connell Ltd, the consortium leader, is a local civil, structural and services engineering group with experience in large-scale projects ranging from airport passenger terminals, mass transit railway systems and many other installations. It has had an active involvement in Hong Kong for 14 years and has worked on a wide range of projects. Overseas, it has also worked on projects including Heathrow, Brisbane, and Sydney airports.
