FRENCH REQUEST FOR BLOCK DIPLOMATIC CLEARANCE FOR OVERFLIGHTS IN DEPENDENT TERRITORIES: HONG KONG RESPONSE

I have consulted Hong Kong Government and they have no objections to the French request. However they would be grateful if the following three points are emphasised to the French authorities should the requested clearance be given:
a) obviously the agreement could not last beyond June 1997,
when the handover to China takes place;
b) advance notice of such military overflights should be
given as early as possible;
c) normal ATC procedures such as filing flight plans, making
position reports, complying with ATC instructions and so on would still have to be followed.
