DENG Xiaoping Compliments the Civil Servants of HK
The civil servants of HK will form the basic strength and backbone of the future SAR. Some of them have worries about their future work arrangements and benefits. We can tell them again, in explicit terms, everything will remain the same, there will be no going backwards, DENG said:
During his tour to Shenzhen and other places in the south in • January this year, DENG, after being briefed by ZHOU Nan, Director of Xin Hua New Agency, HK Branch on the latest situation in HK, has said the following:
"The HK Branch of Xin Hua News Agancy and the office of HK and Macao Affairs have undertaken no easy tasks. They have done a lot these
years.
Good work."
"I often read reports about HK. We should have extensive knowledge about the place and a good understanding of the people of all walks of life; care about their personal interests and listen to their ideas and opinions about relying on themselves to rule HK after 1997 when HK is returned to its mother country. We should meet more frequently with people from all circles who love China and love HK, to keep in touch with them and talk to them, to further clear away whatever misunderstanding they may have on their mind and allay their uncalled for fears. I think under the major premise of one country, two system, there should be no serious conflict of interests or
problems among the different social strata which cannot be smoothed out."
Reiterating that there will be no change to the policy on civil servants

On the civil service of HK, DENG said, compared with other countries of the world, the efficiency of the HK civil servants is high.
