The Aide-de-Camp or Private Secretary should make detailed arrangements beforehand with the organisers as to the exact hour at which the Governor should arrive for any function,

and the exact spot at which he will be met, and by whom. is generally desirable that the Police should be notified in order that traffic may be so regulated that the Governor's

car is not held up.

It should be remembered that the organiser of nearly every

function in the Territory is anxious

anxious to secure the

Governor's patronage, and that, except in a small territory, it would be physically impossible for the

Governor to attend all. It is essential that the Governor

should attend some functions, but if he attends a concert given by one school he will be expected to attend concerts given by other schools; if he attends an

For this reason great care is necessary in

selecting the functions which the Governor should attend, if

offence to others is to be avoided. On the other hand there

are certain functions in each Territory which is traditional

On arrival in the Territory a Governor would probably be met

by the officer who had been administering the Government.

The Governor would normally land wearing uniform (or morning

dress) and be received by a Guard of Honour. The Chief Justice, Bishop, Members of Councils, Heads of Departments and other prominent persons would then probably be presented

the Governor.
