members of his staff and household should not attend any

ball or dance, whether for charities or otherwise, nor should a ball or dance be given at Government House.

Functions such as dinner parties, evening receptions, etc,

whether official or social, should not normally be given or attended during the period of Court Mourning, but this rule may be modified in certain cases having regard to the person for whom the Mourning is ordered.

Receptions on the arrival or departure of a Governor; ceremonies for opening buildings, bazaars, etc; charity concerts; agricultural shows; athletic meetings; and official functions which have been fixed prior to the announcement of Court Mourning may be given or attended during the period of Mourning.

Court Mourning will not be observed by officers of the Navy, Army and Air Force.

PATRONAGE

26.1

The Governor is generally asked to be Chief Scout in the

Territory, and as such is responsible for signing warrants, etc, which would be submitted to him by the Scout

Commissioner.

The Governor's wife is generally asked to be the local head

of the Girl Guides movement.

Soon after and sometimes before arrival in the Territory a

Governor is generally asked to be the Patron of a number of clubs, institutions, and Associations. It is desirable to seek the advice of the next most senior officer in the

Territory or other responsible official before acceptance.

Similarly, before agreeing to open some institution or

function, or to attend a concert or similar entertainment,
