lead the way with her to the dining room. The principal
male guest would follow with the Governor's wife, or, if she
were not present, with the next senior lady. Other guests
would follow in order of precedence.
22.3
Should the principal male guest be a reigning Sovereign, a member of a reigning family, or the President of a
republic: -
a.
If the distinguished guest is unaccompanied by a lady he would lead the way to the dining room with the Governor's wife, or the senior lady present, the
Governor following with the next senior lady;
b. If the distinguished guest is accompanied by a lady
the Governor would offer his arm to her and lead the way to the dining room, the guest following with the
Governor's wife or the next senior lady;
c. If no ladies are present the Governor and the
distinguished guest will walk abreast to the dining room, with the guest on the right hand of the
Governor.
22.4
The Governor will in all circumstances retain the seat
representing the head (or middle) of the table, and his wife, if present, will sit immediately opposite him. The principal male guest will usually sit on
usually sit on the right hand of
the hostess, but if there is no hostess and the principal
male guest is a reigning Sovereign or a member of a reigning family or the President of a republic he will sit on the right hand of the Governor unless he is accompanied by a
lady, in which case the lady will sit

In other cases when there is no hostess but other ladies are
