Dear A

M

I called to see you and Mr. Glover last July (at Curtis Green) and discussed with you the possibility of the Commonwealth Office taking over from us the maintenance and storage of certain Hong Kong Government financial and personnel records.

Mr. Glover subsequently told me that subject to the approval of his Head of Department he proposed to seek the Hong Kong Government's agreement to the transfer and promised to let me see the draft to Hong Kong. I have, however, heard nothing further.

I am naturally interested to clear up this matter which I see from our file was first raised in 1965, but it has now become more pressing, since a re-organisation is proposed here which will leave me with no staff to carry out this work.

I would be grateful if you could let me know the current position. If no approach has yet been made to Hong Kong, we would welcome an opportunity to comment on the draft.

Mr Stewart.
