I have been asked to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 9 October to the Foreign Secretary and of your similar letters of the same date to the Secretary of State for Defence and to the Minister of State and Paymaster General, Lord Belstead. Your similar letters of the same date to Lord Trefgarne, Sir Geoffrey Howe, Mrs Thatcher, Mr Onslow and Mr Renton have also been referred to this department.
I have further been asked to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 9 October to Sir Percy Cradock and of your similar letters of the same date to Mr Boyd, Sir Robin McLaren, Mr Lavers, Mr Fell, Sir Alun Donald, Sir Patrick Wright and Sir Antony Acland. Your similar letter of the same date to the Hong Kong Government Political Adviser, Mr Ehrman, has also been brought to our attention.
We have no comment to make on the questions and allegations you have raised; the correct place to air such matters is the courts. As you know, Mr Osman has made five unsuccessful applications for a writ of habeas corpus; a sixth is pending.
