Dear Richard,
LORRAIN OSMAN: LETTER FROM WINSTON S CHURCHILL MP
1.
I attach a copy of a letter to the Governor covering one to the Rt Hon John Patten, repeating Kevin Cahill's hobbyhorses about the Osman case, top copy and enclosures have been sent by bag. It is not clear why these have taken so long to reach us, but to save time I have taken the liberty of side-copying them to Graham Grant.
2. I have asked the Home Office about the reply to the letter to Mr Patten. They tell me that a draft (broadly on the lines that these are unfounded allegations which have already been considered and rejected by several courts) has been submitted but has not yet issued. When it does they will pass me a copy and I shall fax it to you.
3. Incidentally, you may be pleased to learn that the Divisional Court this morning refused Osman leave to appeal to the House of Lords. He was told that if he wishes to pursue this he will have to petition their Lordships direct.
Yous ever.
Jolm.
