Since the issue of the previous NEWS FLASH much has happened in the travel and airline industries. With the co-operation and understanding of all FCO staff we were able to overcome the majority of the problems of the Gulf War and the demise of Air Europe. All of the Thomas Cook team in Travel Centre thank you for your support and tolerance.

In this issue we are able to update you on the FCO preferred airlines. Sealink is now preferred cross-channel ferry operator and enhanced benefits are now being offered for holidays and self-drive car hire.

PREFERRED AIRLINES

The preferred airlines now being incorporated into the list of Approved Routes are listed on the attached Annex. As before, selection of the airlines has been based on cost savings, as well as safety standards, service and reliability. It is the wish of the FCO management that these airlines be used wherever possible. The use of a non-preferred airline on a route served by a preferred airline is to be the exception rather than the rule. The arrangements are COMMERCIALLY CONFIDENTIAL between the FCO and the UK management of the airlines concerned who have asked that they not be discussed outside the FCO, even with their own overseas representatives.

Normal fares appear on all tickets. Rebates are usually paid in the year following if threshold targets have been met for that year. The greater the use of a particular airline, the greater the saving. These arrangements apply only to bookings made through the Travel Centre. Overseas Posts are encouraged to use the Travel Centre wherever possible. We can either send tickets through the bag, or telex an authority to the airline overseas.

SEALINK CAR FERRIES A deal has now been negotiated with
