Just a line to thank you for finding time for me when you must have been so preoccupied with arrangements for the Secretary of State. I was glad to hear you were well installed, and with the residence moved to The Albany.
I have found trade work the most exacting, frustrating but occasionally rewarding of all our work in the Service, and I do wish you every success in this highly competitive market. Incidentally, Li Ka-Shing and Simon Murray mentioned to me a problem they had about the position of staff in Cheong Kong Holdings Limited and applications for British Citizenship. No doubt you already know about this, but they seemed concerned that the firm's direct and indirect interest in the United Kingdom and contribution to U.K. business, might not be properly reflected in the current approach. They did seem satisfied with the approach as it applied to the subsidiary, Hutchison Whampoa.
