British Undertakings List
- Understand that list of British Undertakings is now with the Governor. Expect it will be published very shortly: we are not making public the outcome until then.
- But can tell you in confidence that both Hutchisons and
Hong Kong Electric and their subsidiaries have been
recommended by Advisory Committee for inclusion.
Position of Cavendish International and Cheung Kong Holdings (if raised)

Understand Cavendish and Cheung Kong were not judged fully
to meet the criteria.
Cannot go into the detail. That is a matter for Advisory
Committee. But understand that main difference is that
Hutchison and Hong Kong Electric trade substantially with
UK, whereas the other two do not.
- If you have any further information to put forward about Cavendish or Cheung Kong or if circumstances change, am sure Advisory Committee would be prepared to look again.
- Have seen reports that Hutchisons have bid to take Cavendish into private ownership. Such a change might be
the sort of factor that the Committee would wish to
consider.
