Certain words or expressions are covered by other legislation and their use might constitute a criminal offence. Some of these are listed below. If you want to use any of these words or expressions in your company name it is sensible to consult a solicitor and you may be asked to write to the relevant body to confirm that you are not breaking any laws. There is no point in writing to the Secretary of State as he cannot give approval for use of these words or expressions, but the Department of Trade and Industry reserves the right to seek advice in each case, direct from the relevant body if need be.
