Progress of Applications Received under

the Sensitive Service Class

PURPOSE

This paper informs members the progress of applications received under the Sensitive Service Class (SSC).

Article 24 of the British Nationality (Hong Kong) (Selection Scheme) Order 1990 provides that the Governor may recommend an applicant if he considers that a recommendation is justified in view of the applicant's service in the interests of the Crown (whether in the private or public sector) or the applicant's other activities of a sensitive nature. A total of 6,300 places is provided under the Sensitive Service Class to cover these people. Of these, 3,850 places will be allocated in the first tranche.

Members have been informed at the

the last meeting that applications uder the SSC are normally by invitation. So far, about 2,950 persons have been identified as being eligible to apply under this Class. These people are mainly drawn from the Directorate, the Administrative Service, the Police, Labour and Immigration Departments; selected civilian and military personnel in the Garrison; departmental and general grades support staff working in sensitive areas; and civil servants and private individuals who are able to demonstrate vulnerability.
