Para 7: Wives and widows of ex-servicemen

a)
Members were informed that -
the Home Secretary had given the assurance to widows of ex-servicemen that they would be allowed to settle in the UK provided that they were still resident in Hong Kong and had not remarried. Home Office intended to issue a letter to each of them explaining the position;
b) wives of ex-servicemen were able to settle in the UK under existing Immigration Rules during the lifetime of their spouses. This arrangement also applied in the case of second and subsequent wives; and
the Director of Administration had written to the Hon. J.D. McGregor on the subject.

Members noted the composition of the first batch of 99 qualified SSC applications which, subject to confirmation of no change in circumstances, would be put forward to the Governor for recommendation to the Secretary
