VISION 2047
Activities
Regular Meetings
Members of Vision 2047 meet fortnightly to share views and discuss local and international events of importance to Hong Kong. Guest speakers at regular breakfast meetings have included prominent members of the local community as well as visitors to Hong Kong.
Meetings with Visitors
In an effort to promote greater understanding of Hong Kong & its future, Vision 2047 meets frequently with visitors to the territory. Visitors in 1991 have included Parliamentarians and other government officials from the UK, Japan, France, Germany, United States and the European Community, business delegations from the UK and Denmark, and academics from Austria and the United States. In addition to meetings held in Hong Kong, Vision 2047's members frequently make use of business trips abroad to address similar forums.
Contacts in the PRC
The issues of importance to Hong Kong and China will continue to evolve over time, and maintaining channels of communication between Hong Kong and the mainland will be extremely important. In an effort to establish contacts that will develop into long- term relationships, Vision 2047 is planning a series of visits to China. A trip to Guangzhou is planned for August 1991 to meet with provincial leaders there. Similar trips to Beijing and Shanghai are planned for the autumn and winter of this year.
Congressional Contacts
In May 1991, two members of Vision 2047 participated in a delegation to Washington D.C. organized by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce to lobby congressmen on renewal of China's Most Favored Nation trading status. It is expected that Vision 2047 will organize similar trips in the future.
As part of a broader overseas outreach effort, Vision 2047 is planning a program to invite U.S. Senators and Congressmen to visit Hong Kong. Such visits would be designed to encourage better understanding among American legislators of the changes occurring in Hong Kong and China and prospects for the future. It is hoped that such an educational effort would be reflected in
