However, the lady in question is very much an entrep eneur in Hong Kong. She started a publishing business

guides and directories for use in the Republic of China and she has clearly been helping the Republic of China build up its tourist industry.

Her business is thus completely tied to the good relations betw en China and the West and it is her intention as I understand it to continue to live in tong Kong after 1997. Indeed, having met the lady in question she strikes me as exactly the sort of person who needs to stay in Hồng Kong if that part of the world is going to be success after 1997.
What however in advance of her marrying is the possibility of her applying for a British passport for herself and à daughter aged 7 (she was previously married in Hong Kong bub was divorced some years ago) Does she apply to the Hong Kong Gove nment?
