Dear Alan,
DEPENDENT TERRITORIES WORK PERMIT QUOTA
Thank you for your letter of 19 March.
The best alternative for people from St Helena is probably our Training and Work Experience Scheme. I attach a copy of the current rules. These are under review but the main principle, that this is for temporary work experience or training of a kind which could not be done in the home country, will remain. Those coming under this scheme would need to have a pre-arranged temporary job with a UK employer, of а kind which met the purpose of the scheme. I hope that this could be arranged for many of those who would otherwise have come under the Quota.
I hope that your colleagues in SAAD will find this useful. Like the Home Office, we are concerned to get an early decision so that we can deal with the applications which have already arrived for this year's Quota, and make the position clear for the future.
