Thank you for your letter of 19 August to Lynda Chalker about the decision to phase out the Special Work Permit Quota Scheme for Dependent Territories. I am replying on behalf of Tristan Garel-Jones, who is currently overseas.
I can confirm that it is our intention to monitor closely the effects the phasing out of the Scheme will have on St Helena in particular. We have already opened discussions with the Department of Employment to examine how St Helena nationals may benefit from existing schemes. We expect the consultation process to continue into the' coming year.
