Dear Mr. Mothers,
Douglas Hurd and I very much welcomed the opportunity to visit the Hong Kong Mass Transport Railway. I was aware of its
reputation for efficiency, cleanliness and financial performance,
but what I saw exceeded my expectations. It is a quite
exceptional system, with many innovative systems from which
others, not least London Underground, can learn.
I was grateful to you for the trouble you took in explaining
your achievements and plans over our all too short journey. I am
delighted to have been able to sign the Memorandum of
Understanding on the new airport which will open new
opportunities for MTRC.
May I thank you for the delightful stored value cards. I
regret that the card for the year of the goat is likely to have
expired before I return.
