Norma and I are most grateful to you and Natasha for your
kindness and hospitality during our visit. We especially enjoyed the dinner you gave for us. The choir was an inspired idea and helped to make a memorable evening.
Thank you, too, for your help and advice in Peking. I am
sure there will be plenty more rocks on the path between here and 1997 but the airport was the biggest one to date and I am
grateful to you for the part you played in reaching an
agreement. I thought, in general, that confidence in Hong Kong
seemed pretty high as a result, and that is a great tribute to
the steadying influence you have exercised over a very difficult
period.
My idea of a meeting with EXCO members in London next year was seriously meant. If in the meantime there are particular
things I can do to help, please let me know.
My love to
Sir David Wilson, K.C.M.G.
