Dear Stephen,
Prime Minister's visit to China and Hong Kong:
Press Briefing
Thank you for your letter of 27 August. The Foreign Secretary discussed briefing the media at an office meeting this afternoon, 28 August. Lord Caithness, Sir Percy Cradock, Andrew Burns and other FCO officials were present.
The Foreign Secretary will brief the Sunday lobby journalists tomorrow, 29 August. He will also brief the diplomatic correspondents.
Because the Foreign Secretary is not having to get on to the plane until later than we had thought, he will give a radio interview, probably to the 'World This Weekend', early on Sunday morning at Heathrow.
The Foreign Secretary will also brief Max Hastings as you suggest.
We wait to hear from Hong Kong about who the Governor's people are lining up to comment in public in advance of the visit and what arrangements they plan to welcome the MOU in Hong Kong when it is signed in Peking on 4 September.
ever,
Yous
