Nigel Wicks will be visiting Hong Kong towards the end of mainly for a meeting of the Economic Summit "Sherpas". He will also be seeing the Financial Secretary and one or two other people in Hong Kong, and for that reason it would be most helpful if you could send us nearer the time your latest assessment of the Hong Kong economy - please do not bother to do anything new; your most suitable piece on the stocks at the time would be fine.
Could I also trouble you to let me have a short note on any financial issues which you think might be raised during the visit. There is no need to cover ECGD - I have asked our colleagues here to provide a note on that.
It would be helpful to have this material by close of business on Friday, 19 April.
I am sending a copy of this letter to Andrew Burns in the FCO, from whom it would be helpful to have a very short note on the general political front within the same timescale.
