Bishop of Baoding diocese, Hebei province. Bishop Chen, who is
partially paralysed and has been confined to a wheelchair for
some years, 'disappeared' from Baoding in mid-December 1990.
He is now believed to be detained in a re-education camp
somewhere in Hebei province.
Fan Xueyan (Joseph) 范学淹
Former bishop of Baoding diocese, Hebei province. 84 years old. Accointed bishop of Baoding diocese in June 1951,
Bishop Fan has spent most of his time since then in prison, in
a labour camp or under house arrest. Normally held at a church
compound in Bacaing city, Bishop Fan 'disappeared' towards the
end of November 1990 and is now believed to be held in a re-
education camp in the Shijiazhuang area of Hebei province.
