LORD CAITHNESS' TRAVEL PLANS
1.
Lord Caithness is considering a visit to Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea for ten days two weeks beginning on
9 February.
-
2. He envisages the visit to Hong Kong as one in his regular cycle of six monthly visits lasting about five days. In addition to the usual elements of the programme he would like to spend time with the HKDTC and meet some of the up and coming local civil servants. Lord Caithness has already said publicly in Hong Kong that he hopes to return for a fuller visit in February. The purpose of the Japan trip would be to make contact with the new government and to visit some parts of Japan that the Minister did not have an opportunity to see during his last trip in December 1990. He has in mind in particular Hiroshima. Lord Caithness has discussed in the past with Mr Wright the possibility of a visit to Korea in February 1992. Mr Wright welcomed the prospect as a means, of focussing Korean attention on the forthcoming UK presidency of the EC. The Minister will discuss this further when he sees Mr Wright on 16 December.
