1. Lord Caithness held a meeting on 28 June, which you and copy addressees attended, to discuss his autumn travel plans. He agreed then to visit South East Asia in September China in October, and Brunei, PNG and Australia (Darwin and Perth) in November. The order of the last two trips may need to be reversed, but we can consider later their precise timings.
2.
As far as the September trip is concerned, the Minister will not now visit Malaysia. He would like instead to plan a visit which includes Bangkok, Phnom Penh (and Angkor Wat, if possible), Vietnam (ideally Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) and, if possible, Vientiane. He would like to leave London on 11 September at the earliest, returning on 25 September in time to recover and host a closing JLG dinner on 26 September. I should be grateful if you could now work up an outline programme, consulting posts (but not host governments) as necessary.
