LORD CAITHNESS' VISIT TO HONG KONG: 22-25 JULY 1991
Following the meeting with Lord Caithness yesterday afternoon, the following points on the briefing emerged:
1.
(a) Lord Caithness would like a copy of the original brief on the distinction between BDTCS, BN (O)s and other types of British citizen in Hong Kong.
(b) He would like a note on the status of children born before 1983 (as discussed).
(c) He would like a note on war widows, bringing out the action that has been taken since the last Ministerial visits. We will need a telegram to Hong Kong about this. We should also go back to the record of his meetings with OMELCO to see whether there are any undertakings given or requested which may recur on this visit.
(d) He would like an urgent update on the position in respect of patrol craft (has the Secretary of State written to the Defence Secretary?) and on the timing of the announcement on Gurkhas and the garrison.
(e) He will similarly need to be kept up-to-date on developments on MFN.
