1. I spent the last week of July in Hong Kong, partly as one in my series of regular six-monthly visits and partly to attend the Pacific Rim Heads of Mission Conference
(about which I am minuting separately). The mood was good. As someone said "with the stock exchange booming and a banking crisis Hong Kong is back to normal". are quiet and cannot have failed to notice the extraordinary generosity of Hong Koncers who have raised over HK$600 million in their response to their disaster appeal for flood relief.
