Section 2 Design Brief
Landscaping
24. The large site will make the disposition of buildings, driveways, terraces and landscaping particularly challenging. Care should be taken to maintain the overall wooded character of that part of Nairobi Hill and some notes on landscaping are attached under Annex M.
Furnishing
25. The broad concept of handling principal offices and entrance areas will be taken into account. It is proposed to furnish the new offices with the new range of standard furniture as supplied by The Crown Suppliers (TCS).
Works of Art
26. An item of sculpture, or decorative feature should be allowed for in the design. The work of art will be commissioned separately at a later stage of the design process,
Cost
27. The quality of the building and finishes should be of a high order.
The cost target is £3.6m as at January 1989 at Nairobi prices. This figure includes an allowance of 10% to cover contingencies, dayworks, abnormal foundations, loose furniture and design development.
28. A notional cost plan is included at Annex K.
