INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AGAINST DRUG TRAFFICKING: CONFISCATION AGREEMENTS
1.
The latest interdepartmental meeting to review progress in concluding bilateral agreements to trace, freeze and confiscate the proceeds of drug trafficking was held on 9 July. A copy of our updated progress report is enclosed. You will see that since the last report we have signed agreements with Barbados (19 April) and Guyana (17 July). This brings the total number of bilateral agreements/arrangements to twenty two.
2.
Eight agreements are now in force (USA, Mexico, Australia, Gibraltar, Switzerland, Canada, Spain and Bahamas). The Order in Council designating Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Montserrat, Cayman Islands and Italy under the Drug Trafficking Offences Act 1986, came into force on 1 July. This means our agreements with Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong will shortly come into force.
3.
We would welcome any comments you or copy recipients have on the report, especially progress which has not been indicated.
Yours ever
