businessmen can apply for multiple visit visas. Since 1989, the policy has been relaxed and all businessmen who have good reason to come to, or through, Hong Kong have been issued with such visas.
A Taiwanese
businessman who wishes to apply for a multiple visit visa has to apply for a single journey visit permit ($115) first to enable him to come to Hong Kong and acquire from a notary public a Declaration of Identity for Visa Purposes, which costs approximately $300.
The visa, endorsed on the Declaration, is valid for multiple trips of 14 days each to Hong Kong within six months. The fee for a multiple visit visa is $115 and it takes four to five weeks to issue. Extensions of stay beyond 14 days are granted on a case by case basis. Applications for extension of the visa have to be submitted in Taiwan.

It is proposed to issue, from 1 June 1990 onwards, multiple visit permits (MTPS) valid for multiple entries to all Taiwanese visitors who choose to apply for them. There will be two types of MTPs, one for social visitors and one for businessmen.

(a)
The features of the MTP are

(e)
a MTP for social visitors will take two weeks to issue, and a MTP for businessmen, four weeks; a MTP can be renewed in Hong Kong in two days' time by either the applicant or his sponsor; and
(f) a MTP will be issued at a fee of $230.
