Although approved transcripts of interviews are not memoirs of the individuals concerned, they are prepared with meticulous care to ensure the highest possible degree of accuracy and value as a source of historical information. As a general rule, interview tapes are usually first transcribed by a confidential assistant, and then checked for accuracy by Dr. Tsang before being sent back to the interviewee concerned to make corrections and amendments as required. A revised version of the transcript is then produced, which is deposited at the Rhodes House Library, subject to restrictions appropriate to the nature of the material, in accordance with. legal requirements. A copy is also sent to the contributor concerned for approval and for record. At this stage the contributor is invited to decide
