What are the laws against child labour? (SR 162 Paragraph 50)

The Hong Kong Government has been pursuing a policy designed to eliminate child labour and raise progressively the minimum age of employment. The Employment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Ordinance and the Employment of Children Reyulations 1979 set the minimum age for employment at 14 years. As from 1 September 1980, this minimum age was raised to 15 years.

In September 1978, the government beyan gradually to introduce free secondary schools up to Form III in both government and subsidized schools. The Education (Amendment) Ordinance 1979 which came into effect 1 September 1979 extended by stages the power of the Director of Education to serve school attendance orders on parents of children of junior secondary school ages, ie aged 12 to under 14 with effect from 1 September 1979 and aged 12 to under 15 since 1 September 1980.
