UN CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD
1. Mr Lennox-Boyd has seen Mr Baker's submission of
5 December. He agrees with the recommendation and is pleased that we will be ratifying shortly.
2.
He will speak next week to Mrs Bottomley about the publicity point in para 10. He agrees that in view of the number and difficulties of our reservations a press conference would probably not be a good idea. It would be better to publicise our ratification by means of an inspired Parliamentary Question and a press statement. But if Mrs Bottomley is set on a press conference we cannot stop her,given that the Department of Health will be in the lead after ratification.
