He worked steadily as a trading company
clerk in 1978 and even secured a raise. He remained in that job until he was arrested for murder. In prison he was assigned sewing and tailoring work. Madam CHOT with his daughter left him 2 years after his imprisonment to emigrate to Canada.

The Prisoner, when interviewed, appeared frank and co-operative. He admittedly had joined '14K' triad society and had been involved in their unlawful activities. After his incarceration, the Prisoner said that he had during the past years in prison, been repentant of his folly and became a vegetarian and a Buddhist. He hoped to became a monk and preach Buddhism should he be granted a discharge. Moreover, the Prisoner revealed that he had also renounced his triad membership early in the year and was determined to turn anew. He asked for a commutation of his life sentence to a determinate term of imprisonment so that he could take care of his aged parents and to accomplish his mission to preach.

According to the Prisoner's mother, the Prisoner was and responsible son. He was not vicious in nature and only went astray under influence of undesirable peoples. During his incarceration, she paid monthly visits to the Prisoner who was found deeply regretful of his past misdeeds. She hoped that the Prisoner could be granted an early release for a family reunion. She revealed that both she and her husband were in good health mobile and self-sufficient. Their unmarried children lived with them and they also received regular financial support from most of
their children.Should the Prisoner be discharged the family would be willing to contribute in all ways to his rehabilitation.

From the social enquiry, the Prisoner seemed to be remorseful towards his past wrongdoings. In view of his remorse and family support, he may stand a reasonable chance in his social rehabilitation. As the Prisoner's parents are well cared for with no financial or physical problems, - and that his co-habitant with his daughter had already emigrated to Canada, there appears to be no justifiable social grounds to support his petition.
