WCNG Wing-tim had become by then a partner in another illegal
gambling syndicate. WONG Yik-fun and CHAN Kan-sau were employees of the
syndicate. CHAN Kan-chaung is the brother of CHAN Kan-sau and this
seemed to be the only connection he had with the other three petitioners
or the gambling syndicate. FU (acquitted) was a friend of the WCNGS and
CHAN.

On the evening of the day of the murder HCNG wing-tim,
WCNG Yik-fun and another employee were on a debt-collecting expedition,
not an unusual feature of gambling businesses. In the course of the
evening they obtained some knives from a fruit stall whose owner used
to store such weapons. 2 of the weapons were beef knives each about
111⁄2 inches long.

Not finding the person for whom they were looking, the weapona
Later were returned to the fruit stall and they went to a restaurant.
in the evening WCNG Wing-tim received a message that the person for when
he was seeking was in the New Paris Restaurant. He decided to go there,
and gave instructions to an employee (later a police witness at his trial
and henceforth referred to as P6) to obtain the weapons again.

WONG Wing-tim and WONG Yik-fun then mat CHAN Kan-cheung and
CHAN Kan-sau and they were driven to the New Paris Restaurant by P6.
On the way to the restaurant there was a conversation in the car,
the pressence of all 4 petitioners, to the effect that although they had
long knives they did not have any short knivas. They returned to the
stall and collected short knives. There they met FU Sze-chau. The long
knives were carried into the restaurant by WONG Yik-fun; the short
knives were carried in by CHAN Kan-sau.
