I refer to Miss Cheung's letter of the 11th February and regret to advise you that I am still unable to give a substantive reply. As you may be aware, we do receive a number of enquiries of a similar nature all of which need a great deal of research in this case involving files from other Departments dating from 1974.
In general however I can advise that the Crown Lands Resumption Ordinance provides (s.8) for claims
for claims to be made within a period of 1 year from the date of resumption, or such further period as the Governor may allow. From the correspondence it appears that Mr. Lau did not approach the District Office until some 4 or 5 years after the resumption, and that Letters of Administration to his father's estate were not applied for until some 6 years after his death.
