5.30.
The role of UK DTP surveyors who carry out

work on Hong Kong's behalf in Europe will need to be
clarified. We would greatly welcome their continued
support once the new register has been established.
present DTP is regularly requested to survey Hong Kong
ships in UK and Europe. With its existing establishment
of surveyors Hong Kong could not cope with this work
without support. It is possible, however, DTP might not
wish to continue to provide it.
5.31.
We were told in March by the DTP that the
criteria for recognising additional classification
societies was:-
(a) were they good enough; and
(b) would there be reciprocal rights for
Lloyds.
If Hong Kong were to extend its recognition before 1997,
HMG might come under pressure from Lloyds to seek
reciprocity.
